"Sports Q measures the familiarity and appeal of personalities in a variety of sports categories to determine targeted audience attraction."

Sports Q data enable our clients to make informed decisions about a specific personality's demographic appeal and/or examine the field of possible alternatives.

Sports Q studies are conducted as follows:

  • Studies are fielded once each year in March.
  • Each study measures approximately 500 personalities, whose names and descriptions are submitted by full-study subscribing clients. Individual orders are also accepted.
  • Each personality is rated by a nationally representative sample of 2,000 teens (12-17) and adults (18-64).
  • In addition, 51 sports/activities are rated to track their year-to-year appeal, while personality appeal is tabulated among specific sports "fans."

Three ways to obtain Sports Q data:

  • Full study
  • Demographic profiles on one or more personalities or sports/activities
  • Ranking of all 500 personalities and 51 sports/activities among a demographic "target" audience

Data are available from earlier studies, dating back to 1990.

Custom Sports Research

There are occasions when the schedule of our syndicated Sports Q studies is not timely, or we may not have any recent - or any - data on a particular sports personality. Fortunately, we offer the following custom research:

Custom Sports Q:

Launch your own version of Sports Q with a smaller sample and abbreviated questionnaire at any time. National or regional samples are selected from our consumer panel, by using your specified demographic requirements, or respondents that are identified in the syndicated study as "fans" of a particular sport (e.g. auto racing). These custom versions of Sports Q utilize the "norms" from the syndicated studies.

Sports Tracking Studies:

The syndicated Sports Q study includes a list of 51 sports and activities, which are also rated on familiarity and likeability. Supplement these data with interim studies and track the growth or decline in appeal of such sports as Major League Baseball, Skateboarding, X-Games, NASCAR, and more.

Adding a tracking wave in between annual Sports Q studies helps assess the demographic changes that may occur.
